Summer = Disney

Instead of asking the winning Super Bowl team where they’ll be going next, Disney should be asking the hoards of children that same question on their last day of school before summer break. The answer would be the same. Summer break for thousands of families equals exciting trips to Disneyland® Resort, Walt Disney World® Resort or a floating experience aboard Disney Cruise Line®.

No matter which Disney adventure you and your family choose this year, here are a few fun Disney cruise facts:

  • Disney Cruise Line was the first to have a fireworks display at sea.
  • The anchor on the Disney Magic weighs 28,200 pounds, about the same as three full-grown elephants. Each ship weighs 90 million pounds.
  • Disney ships are the only cruise ships to have four captains: the ship’s captain, Captain Mickey, Captain Hook and Captain Jack Sparrow.
  • On an average seven-night Disney cruise, 10,000 pounds of chicken, 71,500 eggs, 12,800 pounds of melon, 57,820 cups of coffee and 2,700 bottles of wine and champagne are consumed … among many other foods.
  • The main atrium chandeliers on both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are each one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces created by celebrated glass artist Dale Chihuly. He used acrylic plastic to meet cruise-line safety standards.
