Since spring is that time when many of us return to the outdoors, it is also a good time to remember how important it is to protect our natural surroundings. As a company, AAA Washington believes we should all do our part to help preserve our mountains, forests, rivers and lakes for future generations.
Our desire to do so has kept us looking for cleaner ways to operate for many years. More than a decade ago, we were among the first businesses in King County's EnviroStars program, and we also participate as a Co-Star. In these roles, we have helped our Approved Auto Repair shops and our members safely dispose of hazardous automotive parts and supplies and find cleaner substitutes. For these and other efforts, we have been named a five-star business for several years in a row and received the coveted Green Globe award in 2005.
In our offices, we make every effort to invest in the latest in eco-friendly technology. This approach allowed us to dramatically increase the energy efficiency of the lighting and HVAC systems in our corporate office following a recently completed renovation. Similar improvements are part of the ongoing maintenance plan for our other locations across Washington and northern Idaho.
As a major supporter of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, we are proud to be part of the coalition of public and private interests working to preserve undeveloped open spaces along the I-90 corridor.
We also feel that it is important to share information about the latest advances in eco-friendly technology with our members. This edition of Journey contains articles about travel options, emerging vehicle technologies and other programs designed to help us reduce our impacts on our surroundings. A healthy environment is a vital component of a healthy future, and this is something that we can all support.
